Fatima

Learning of Children’s Flight of Hope opened a new world of possibilities to Fatima.

Her spina bifida and hydrocephalus were just part of her medical complexities and she needed specialty treatment beyond what her parents could find near their home in Karachi, Pakistan. Fatima was accepted for care at Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital and we arranged for her 8,000-mile flight there.

On their first attempt to travel, Fatima and her father drove 16 hours to the airport in Islamabad. After arriving, they were turned away due to Covid travel restrictions on their London layover and disappointedly made the long drive back home. A month later, we found a flight from their hometown airport and Fatima finally made it to the U.S. Five months of treatment, surgery and therapies helped save Fatima’s kidneys and gave her greater mobility. We’re thankful to be there for Fatima as she steps towards improved health and independence
